GENERAL INFORMATION FOR OUR HYSSOP ESSENTIAL OIL:
Our Hyssop essential oil (Hyssopus Officinalis) from Bulgaria is steam distilled from the leaves and flowering tops. The plant grows about 2 feet high and may have purple, pink, or white flowers.
Because it contains almost every chemical compound found in essential oils, hyssop is one of the most powerful essential oils.
This herb has been used since ancient times as a medicinal herb and is associated with purification.
It is known as one of the early “holy herbs” and is mentioned in various places of the bible.
During the Roman era, it was believed the herb could protect people from the plague.
Ancient Greeks used hyssop for its ability to clear the lungs when a person was suffering from a cold and to increase blood circulation.
In oriental medicine, hyssop is a strong tonic of the bodies warming yang energy.
In magic, it is used for its ability to sharpen awareness and improve one’s psychic ability.
Hyssop essential oil has an intense effect on the nervous system that is invigorating and is excellent for those who are suffering from mental fatigue and poor concentration. For some, it can aid in creativity and can help focus the mind during mediation.
When mixed with a massage oil, hyssop essential oil can treat minor aches and pains, charley horses, and cramps of the muscles.

AROMA OF HYSSOP ESSENTIAL OIL:
Fresh, pungent, earthy, somewhat woody smell with some mintiness and a little sweetness. Can be too powerful for some people if used by itself.

Bergamot, chamomile roman, clary sage, cypress, frankincense, geranium, grapefruit, juniper berry, lavender, lemon, sweet marjoram, sweet orange, palmarosa, pine, ravensary, rosemary, tea tree, thyme, vetiver, ylang ylang.
HYSSOP ESSENTIAL OIL RECIPES:
Here are a few blends you can try with our hyssop essential oil. These amounts are for a diffuser in the 100 – 200 ml capacity. Refer to our diffusing guidelines or your instruction manuals to adjust the amount you use for your particular size of diffuser by either adding or decreasing the drops depends on your diffuser capacity.
Soothing Breath:
- 2 drops Hyssop
- 2 drops Eucalyptus
- 2 drops Rosemary
- 1 drop Geranium
Good Health:
- 3 drops Hyssop
- 2 drops Tea Tree
- 1 drop Eucalyptus
- 1 drop Frankincense
Spring Freshness:
- 2 drops Hyssop
- 2 drops Lavender (French)
- 1 drop Bergamot
- 1 drop Geranium
Cleansing:
- 2 drops Hyssop
- 2 drops Rosemary
- 2 drops Clary Sage
- 1 drop Peppermint
SAFETY:
Hyssop should be avoided by people prone to seizures or during pregnancy since this oil contains a compound called Pinocamphone, which is a nerve stimulant. Ingesting hyssop essential oil in high dosages has the potential of causing seizures and/or loss of consciousness.
