GENERAL INFORMATION FOR ROSEMARY ORGANIC ESSENTIAL OIL:
Rosemary organic essential oil has been used throughout history and is one of the most popular essential oils. The plant is well known for its culinary uses and it has long been known as a plant that can enhance memory. This rosemary cineole essential oil comes from South Africa. It is stimulating, warming and refreshing.
A chemotype of a plant means the same species of a plant is capable of producing essential oils with different types of chemical compounds. This typically occurs when the plant is grown under different growing conditions. Because each chemotype has a different chemical makeup, it means that each chemotype has different attributes. For Rosemary, there are typically 6 different chemotypes: camphor, borneol, cineole, limonene, verbenone, and Pinene.
Rosemary cineole is the most common type, which is what this particular essential oil is. It has the lowest camphor content of all the rosemary chemotypes. Camphor can cause seizures and swallowing camphor can be deadly.
With its high 1,8 cineole content, rosemary organic essential oil (cineole) may have the ability to reduce inflammation, kill bacteria and viruses, open up nasal passages, and can reduce coughing. 1,8 cineole is the same chemical found in eucalyptus. It has long been thought that this form of rosemary can improve cognitive functions and enhance memory, and new research seems to support this theory. Some people also claim it gives them an energy boost.
This chemotype of rosemary organic essential oil is the one that most aromatherapists use for their practice.
