GENERAL INFORMATION FOR WILDCRAFTED FIR NEEDLE ESSENTIAL OIL:
Our wildcrafted Canadian Fir Needle essential oil from Artisan Aromatics comes from Fir (Abies) trees that are a genus of 48–56 species of symmetrical, evergreen, coniferous trees belonging to the pine family Our fir needle essential oil, Abies balsamea, specifically comes from the mountain regions of Canada.
Native people have long since used the oil from the needles as a first aid for cuts and scrapes because of its healing properties. Numerous chemicals found in this essential oil such as alpha-pinene are known for controlling various bacteria including Staphylococcus aureus. Traditionally, fir needle has been used as a natural analgesic for minor aches and to relax muscles. It is sometimes used as an additive for massage oils because of these natural properties.
Although it is still too early, there is promising research underway to study its effects on preventing and reducing certain cancers. One component of fir needle called alpha-humulene has shown promising anticancer activity with a number of tumor cell lines including MCF-7 (breast), PC-3 (prostate), A-549 (lung), DLD-1 (colon), M4BEU (melanoma) and CT-26 (colon).
In forming memories and recalling them, aroma plays an important role. For those who celebrate the holidays, there is nothing quite like the aroma of a brand new tree in the house. But today, those natural aromas have been lost as fir trees have been replaced with artificial trees. Using our fir needle essential oil in a diffuser, you can easily revive those warm holiday aromatic memories. But just don’t use this essential oil around the holidays, enjoy its healing properties in your essential oil blends all year round.
