Using apples in love spells and rituals has held a special place in spellwork for centuries, thanks to their symbolism, associations with fertility, and alluring aroma.

This fruit has been a powerful tool in various cultures and traditions to enhance romantic relationships, attract love, and even predict one’s romantic future.

Apples are seen as symbols of love, fidelity, fertility, marriage, sexuality, beauty, vanity, wisdom, and immortality.

I remember reading “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein, which is a short story about a relationship between a boy and an apple tree.

Throughout the boy’s life, he goes to the tree asking the tree to supply him with apples, branches, wood, etc.  Because of the love the tree has for the boy, he supplies everything the boy asks until it is no more than a stump.  The stump is where the boy (now an old man) is laid to rest.

This powerful story forever ties love and apples to each other for me.

In this article, I will explore the fascinating world of how apples are used in love magick and rituals.

Symbolism and associations with apples in love spells and rituals used in witchcraft and other traditions

Apples have had a long spiritual association with love and passion due to their enticing fragrance and appealing appearance. In many cultures, religions, and pagan traditions, the apple symbolizes beauty, desire, and temptation.

Like most of you, I have always associated apples with love, to the point that it is almost tangible.

To me, apples are more than just a fruit, they are symbols of love, desire, and attraction, that even the ancients knew about.

As some examples, the metaphysical association between apples and love dates back to ancient mythology, where they were often linked to goddesses of love and fertility, such as Aphrodite in Greek mythology and Venus in Roman mythology.

In ancient Greek and Roman mythologies, the golden apple is a recurring theme.

For instance, in one Greek tale, a golden apple inscribed “To the most beautiful goddesst” leads to a dispute among deities.

In Roman culture, apples were so significant that a goddess, Pomona, was believed to preside over them.

Pomona, a virginal nymph of the woods, ensured a bountiful apple harvest annually with her consort, the personification of Autumn, Vertumnus

Other deities that apples are associated with include Hara, Gaia, and Rhiannon.

Love spells and potions that include apples

Apples are a common ingredient in love spells and potions. They are often used to infuse love objects, such as love dolls or charms, with their romantic energy.

Warning: If you are using apples as part of a love and attraction spell, make sure the person you are interested in is in love with you of their own free will.  Also, be sure your intent is friendly and that the relationship will be healthy for both of you.

 Apple love binding spell

Apples can be used in spells to bind love between two lovers.

As an example, the following spell is designed to strengthen the bond between two individuals in a loving relationship. It’s often performed during a waxing moon, symbolizing the growth of love.

Materials Needed:

  • Two ripe apples
  • A red ribbon
  • A piece of parchment paper
  • Red ink or a red pen
  • Rose petals
  • Honey

Steps:

  1. Write your name on one piece of parchment paper, and your partner’s name on another, using red ink.

  2. Cut the apples in half horizontally, so you can see the star-shaped core.

  3. Take one apple half and place the parchment paper with your partner’s name facing up on top of it.

  4. Sprinkle some rose petals and a drizzle of honey over the parchment paper.

  5. Take the other apple half and place the parchment paper with your name facing up on top of it.

  6. Carefully press the two halves together so that the names are facing each other and the core forms a whole apple.

  7. Tie the apple together with the red ribbon while saying words of love and commitment.  For example:

My Dearest,

From the moment our paths crossed, you’ve captivated me with your kindness, strength, and vibrant spirit. Every day spent with you is a journey that enriches my soul and fills my heart with joy. Your laughter is my favorite symphony, and your smile lights up the darkest of my days.

I am profoundly grateful for every shared sunrise, every shared dream, and every tender moment. With you, I have found a love that transcends the ordinary, a connection that deepens with every passing day.

I promise to cherish and honor you, to stand by your side through the ebb and flow of life. In your eyes, I see a future filled with hope and boundless possibilities. With every beat of my heart, I commit to you, to our journey together, and to the love that weaves our souls into one.

You are my confidant, my joy, my love. In you, I have found my home. I pledge to nurture our bond with patience, understanding, and endless affection. Together, let’s build a lifetime of memories, a tapestry of shared experiences, and a legacy of love.

Forever and always

  1. As the apple dries, your love is believed to strengthen and grow. Keep it in a safe, sacred space.

Carve the initials of the person you desire into an apple

Some love spells involve carving the initials of the person you desire into an apple, and then burying it to symbolize the growth of love between you and that person.

Stick the name of a future lover inside an apple and bury it

One common apple love spell involves writing your name and the name of your beloved one on a piece of paper, placing it inside an apple, and burying the apple in the ground.

As the apple decomposes, it is believed that your love will grow stronger and deeper.

Inscribe the name of an angel on an apple and then eat the apple

This practice was believed to kindle love in the person who consumed the apple.

For instance, inscriptions like “Aleo + Deleo + Delato” or “Guel + Bsatirell + Gliaell” were used with specific incantations to invoke love.

Create a magickal love elixir that includes apples

Apples can also be used in love potions brewed with herbs and spices to create a magical elixir believed to enhance one’s allure and attraction.

The following elixir includes apples and roses as its main ingredients.

Both apples and roses carry strong symbolic meanings related to love and romance.

Apples, through various mythologies and folklores (like the story of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, often associated with apples), have come to symbolize beauty, desire, and love.

Roses, universally recognized as symbols of love and passion, especially red roses, reinforce these themes in the elixir.

The fragrance of roses and the sweet taste of apples and honey can evoke feelings of pleasure and comfort, which are often associated with feelings of love and affection.

 Apple honey rose love elixir

Materials Needed:

  • 1 fresh, organic apple (preferably red for its association with love and passion)
  • 2 tablespoons of raw honey (for sweetness and harmony in relationships)
  • A handful of dried rose petals (symbolizing love and emotional connection)
  • A pinch of cinnamon (to ignite passion and attraction)
  • A small piece of rose quartz (to amplify loving energy)
  • Filtered or spring water
  • A small pot and a glass bottle for storage

Steps:

  1. Prepare the Apple: Wash the apple thoroughly and slice it into thin pieces, keeping the skin on. The apple symbolizes love and the heart.

  2. Rose Petals Preparation: Ensure your dried rose petals are clean and free from any chemicals, as they represent the blossoming of love.

  3. Brewing the Elixir:

    • Place the apple slices, dried rose petals, and cinnamon in the pot.

    • Cover them with filtered or spring water.

    • Gently heat the mixture on a low flame. Do not let it boil, as this is meant to be a gentle infusion.

    • As the mixture simmers, focus on your intentions for love, harmony, and affection. Envision the elixir absorbing these energies.

    • After about 10 minutes of simmering, turn off the heat.

  4. Adding Honey: Once the mixture has cooled a bit, stir in the raw honey. This adds sweetness to the elixir and symbolizes the sweetness in relationships.

  5. Infusing with Rose Quartz: Place the piece of rose quartz near the pot while the elixir cools. This step is to infuse the elixir with the energy of unconditional love. Make sure the stone does not come into direct contact with the elixir.

  6. Straining and Storing:

    • Strain the mixture to remove the apple slices, rose petals, and any other solids.

    • Pour the liquid into a clean glass bottle.  Note:  The elixir should be stored in the refrigerator and consumed within a week for freshness.

  7. Using the Elixir: Consume a small amount of the elixir daily, envisioning love and positive relationships as you do. You can also add it to beverages like tea or lightly drizzle it over desserts.

Apples long history of being used in divination and fortune-telling in love magick

Apples have been used as tools for divination in love magick, including marriage and relationship outcomes.

Apples are used in love rituals using divination as a tool for gaining insights, answers, or guidance related to matters of the heart.

 Bobbing for apples

Back when I was in elementary school, we had a little carnival to raise some money for student events.  One of the games we participated in was bobbing for apples.

Little did I know back then was this game was based on an ancient marriage divination ritual.

In this ritual, young unmarried people would attempt to bite into an apple floating in the water or hanging from a string without using their hands. The first to bite into the apple would supposedly be the next to marry.

In some variations, girls would mark apples before they were floated in a tub of water, and the boy who successfully bobbed for a particular girl’s apple would be destined to be her future husband.

Here are some other examples of apples being used for divination purposes.

 Apple peeling

One popular divination method is apple peeling, where the skin is carefully peeled off in one continuous strip, and the shape it forms can reveal the initial of a future lover or provide insights into one’s romantic future.

Materials and Requirements:

  • A fresh, preferably red, apple
  • A sharp knife or a peeling tool
  • A quiet space where you won’t be disturbed

Steps:

  1. Preparation:

    • Choose a time when you are calm and focused.

    • Cleanse your space and yourself to create a peaceful, sacred environment. This could be as simple as lighting a candle or taking a few deep breaths.

  2. Peeling the Apple:

    • Hold the apple in your non-dominant hand and the peeling tool or knife in your dominant hand.

    • Begin to peel the apple in one continuous strip, focusing on your intentions and questions about love. The goal is to keep the peel intact in one long piece. This requires a steady hand and concentration.

  3. Casting the Peel:

    • Once the apple is fully peeled, and you have a long strip of peel, gently toss the peel over your shoulder or let it fall to the ground behind you.

    • The shape that the peel forms upon landing is said to reveal the initial of your future love interest.

  4. Interpreting the Shape:

    • Carefully look at the shape formed by the apple peel. It may form a letter or a symbol.

    • The initial that the shape most closely resembles is said to be the first letter of your future lover’s name.

  5. Reflection and Closure:

    • Take some time to reflect on the experience and what it might mean for you.

    • Dispose of the apple peel respectfully, either by burying it, returning it to nature, or composting it.

 Apple slicing

Another tradition involves slicing an apple in half and examining the seeds’ arrangement for clues about one’s love life.

Use apple blossoms in your love rituals

The blossoms of the apple tree are considered symbols of love and fertility.

 Create an apple blossom crown

In some traditions, wearing an apple blossom crown or garland is believed to attract romantic attention and blessings.

Place apple blossoms under your pillow to entice romantic dreams

Additionally, placing apple blossoms under your pillow is said to induce romantic dreams or visions of your future love.

 Apple love charms

An apple and cinnamon love charm can be especially effective.

Apples are often used to create love charms and amulets to attract love.

Creating love charms that include apples can be a charming and symbolic way to represent affection and attraction.

For example, a small apple-shaped pendant or charm can be carried or worn as a symbol of love and desire. These charms are believed to bring luck in matters of the heart and help attract a loving partner.

The following love charm combines the natural sweetness of apples with the warm, inviting scent of cinnamon, known for its love-attracting properties.

Steps:

  • Start by cutting an apple into two equal halves.

  • On one half, carve your initials and on the other half, carve the initials of your love interest.

  • Sprinkle cinnamon over both halves while focusing on your intentions for romance and connection.

  • Tie the halves together with a red ribbon, symbolizing unity and passion. Keep this charm in a special place in your home.

Apple magick in weddings

Apples have also played a role in wedding traditions and rituals. In some cultures, newlyweds are given apples as a symbol of their love and fertility.

Apples are sometimes incorporated into wedding decorations, bouquets, and even the wedding cake to bring blessings and happiness to the newlyweds.

The rich symbolism between apples and marriage, fertility, fidelity, and love, makes them a popular choice for incorporating into wedding ceremonies and celebrations
